Fido’s Fall Plans

October 15, 2023
Autumn can be a very fun time for our canine companions. Fido gets to run and play without overheating in the sweltering heat, and he can enjoy sniffing and exploring all sorts of beautiful trails. Actually, your canine buddy may have a few seasonal things on his agenda for the coming months. A Des Moines, IA vet lists a few of them below.

Explore

Our furry friends love to visit new places. Explorations are good for people and pets: the exercise, fresh air, and change of scenery will do both you and Fido good. Just put your pup’s safety first. Keep your dog on a leash any time you take him off your property, and don’t let him sniff around areas where wild animals may be lurking.

Play In Leaf Piles

It’s always cute seeing pups playing in piles of newly-raked leaves. There are a few caveats here, though. Only let Fido play in leaf piles right after you’ve raked them up. If they sit, they can get quite damp, which offers perfect conditions for dangerous mold and mildew. Plus, wild animals may find those piles tempting hideouts. You’ll also need to be careful of sharp sticks.

Strike A Pose

There’s no bad time to take a photo of your canine buddy, but fall does offer a chance for some truly striking photographs. Take advantage of the beautiful foliage and the warm golden light, and snap a cute picture of your canine buddy. For best results, shoot at dusk or dawn. You may want to experiment with different photo apps. You can get some that were made specifically for taking pet photos. These have quite helpful features, such as removing red-eye or blurring the background.

Get A Makeover

Many dogs don’t get bathed quite as often in winter as they do in summer. Once it gets cold, you don’t really want to be walking Fido to dry him off! If you take your furry best pal to the salon, this is a great time to schedule a glow-up. If you cut Fido’s fur in summer, start letting it grow out.

Soak Up Some Sun

Dogs love finding warm, cozy napping spots, and who can blame them? Offer your canine companion a clean, comfy bed to snuggle up in. For extra tail wags, put one in a sunny spot.
