August 15 is “Check the Chip Day” at Des Moines Veterinary Clinics

August 13, 2013
Des Moines Veterinary Clinics Encourage Pet Owners to Microchip Their Pets by Dr Nancy Peterson at Ingersoll Animal Hospital Having your pet microchipped greatly increases the chance that your pet will find his/her way back home if he is lost or stolen….. but a microchip only works if its registration information is accurate and current. To remind pet owners to have their pets microchipped and to keep the registration information up-to-date, AVMA and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) joined together to create “Check the Chip Day” and local Des Moines Veterinary Clinics would like you to participate. Take advantage of this reminder: 1) Make an appointment with your Des Moines Veterinary Clinic for microchipping if your pet isn’t already microchipped (then make sure that your pet’s chip is immediately registered); and 2) Check your already-microchipped pet’s registration information in the microchip manufacturer’s database, and make sure it’s up-to-date. We often move or change phone numbers so updating is important. 3) Can’t remember if your pet is microchipped? Bring them into a Des Moines Veterinary clinic and have them scanned on August 15th or any day that works for you. 4) For more information on why microchipping your pet is important read the Blog “Help Them Find Their Way Back Home in Des Moines“ by Dr Nancy Peterson at Ingersoll Animal Hospital. Updating your pet’s microchip registration: 1) To update your pet’s registration, you’ll need your pet’s microchip number. We can scan your pet and get it for you and provide you with contact information or if you are an Ingersoll Animal patient we will have it in your pet’s record. 2) If you haven’t already created an account when registering your microchip, you’ll need to do that as well so you can access the registration in the future to update the information. Make sure that all of the information, particularly your phone number(s) and address, are correct. At Ingersoll Animal Hospital we are animal lovers through and through! This is why we can’t help treating your pet as if they were our very own little guy or gal… greeting them warmly, wrapping them in a warm blanket when chilly, and always rubbing their belly and talking to them and as if we were their guardian pet parent.
